The Prop Up (last Friday of every month) is a gathering of music-lovers in East London.
A jam, followed by 4 acts, followed by another jam.
Entry is free for jammers. The stage is as open as it gets, so don’t be afraid of jumping up! Been AMAZING to see some people jump on stage for the first time. Let’s keep that up.
For March 30th, we’re propping up…
Zeñel – A virtuoso blend of Jazz and Electronica. This young band has wowed audiences at Jazz Re:Freshed, Love Supreme Festival, London Jazz Festival under the #jazznewbloodALIVE series, Royal Albert Hall (as part of the Music for Youth prom) prom, and more. At just 18 and under, they have earned Top 10 Best UK Young Drummer of the Year (2015, 2016 and 2017) and finalist positions at BBC Young Musician jazz award 2016 with theira. A lot to be excited about with this set.
Passenger Casanova- A sax/rap lead 4-piece who’s members have kept listeners guessing what’s next at the Roundhouse, Barbican, Novello Theatre, Sofar sounds and more. Shifting seamlessly between Pink Floyd style psychedelic jams, grime, boom-bap and jazz fusion, they defy classification with a wholly original and gritty set of compositions. They’ll be playing through their work-in-progress second EP.
Shutdown collective – Spoken word meets rave meets the housing crisis. This production comes to you from a collective comprised of creative, working-class women who use spoken word poetry to address issues affecting the lives of working-class youth today. Born out of the Roundhouse, their mix of poetry and theatre is thought-provoking and visceral.
Oliver Wallen – A magician and mentalist from East London. His set is utterly mind-bending and slightly terrifying. We won’t give too much away here.
