Denver Cuss is a jazz vocalist based in Ealing. She received classical training from the age of 8, before entering into a 10 year amateur musical theatre stint. Denver obtained a first class honours’ degree in Music Performance from the London College of Music, where she discovered that jazz, soul and funk were more suited to her than musical theatre, which she grew up performing.
Denver won the LCM Lutenor prize for Outstanding Jazz Vocalist both in her first and third year at university. She is particularly proud of this as it had never been won by a first year, nor had it been won twice by an LCM student. Denver prides herself on being musically versatile, which she believes has been achieved thus far by constantly absorbing as many types of music as possible.
Denver takes inspiration from modern jazz musicians such as Esperanza Spalding and Roy Hargrove, and fusion artists like Chick Corea, Weather Report, Hiatus Kaiyote.
